About Our Business

CrossRoads School of Music offers beginner through professional level lessons, in
all styles, on guitar, piano/keyboard, voice, bass, song writing, stage presence, band formation, praise and worship and other
areas.

Our Students become musicians and players, not just people who take lessons.
In our studio, you will have a personable player as a teacher, who crafts our program to enable you to play your music, not ours.
JB is a career musician with over 30 years dedicated to and skilled at what it takes to make music.
What We Do:

Offer beginner students a chance to get their feet wet to see if they really want to take their instrument seriously or
simply learn to play for recreation and relaxation
Help musicians "tweak" their performances and playing skills in a professional, Big room studio atmosphere with state of
the art equipment
JB gives positive criticism in areas needed in a private one-on-one session to ensure the best stage presence and
performance from each musician.  This is an area which is needed but not always addressed and is approached in a non-
threatening positive light
FULL BAND REHEARSALS: This is an area in which I (JB) will work on the group as a whole.  I'll  bring you in and let you do
your "thing" and then instruct you in areas needed.  Most bands have a good idea where they want to go and what they
want to play.  They just need some "tweaking" here and there.  Sometimes their material can be altered a bit and make a
big difference.  For instance, vocalists many times exceed their range, for whatever reason, which hinders the bands'
over all performance.  How many times have you heard people say "That band was pretty good but the singer needed
something".  Sometimes a little guidance in this area can bring the bands overall evaluation to a higher standard and the
songs that were causing strain on the singer can be worked on behind the scenes and brought up to par. Another area
often needed to be addressed is volume.  Many musicians tend to constantly turn up and before long all  you have is a big
noise bash.  Sad but true.  I'll work on this area and show you the difference.  For in instance, say you have a lead guitarist
who is really good but during the vocals he is too strong on the volume.  I'll ask him to allow me to play his guitar at the
same volume and have him stand out front and listen.  Then I'll say something like, "let me turn down a little and tell me if
you think it sounds better".  Most of the time he will agree and therefore "he" makes the decision and will be more likely
to correct the problem vs. my standing there with my arms folded and pointing to him saying "dude, your way too loud,
turn down so we can hear the vocals."  Catch my drift?  I could go on but if I tell you all I do then you won't need my
services now will  ya?  See you in the studio!! JB
A little about me

I was born and raised in Britton, MI.  Started playing the drums at the age of 10.
My Grandmother Brown taught me piano.

I played in various Jr. High and High School Bands hosting school dances and private parties around my hometown.

In my early twenties I traveled around Colorado, California and Florida with different cover bands.

In my thirties I moved to Dallas and played all over the Metroplex forming my own bands such as:
There 'n Back
JB & the Texas Heat
JB Boogie Band
JB and the CrossRoads Band

I also assisted in promoting "Slick Willy", a band my son was in at age 16 in Michigan.  Jeremiah also started the
drums at the age of 10.  Jeremiah now drums for "Dirty Americans", a national act.  They toured Europe, Tokyo and
the US with top shelf headliners and was listed in the September issue of Hit Parader 2005 as one of the upcoming
bands to watch out for. Cool Deal.

At Shiloh Church in Flower Mound I played drums for the worship team for 3 years, the guitar for 2 years, then started
a youth group of 9 beginner students and went on the road within 6 months playing all over the state.  The band was
called the "Alpha Omega Youth Band."

In 1997 I moved to Crossroads, TX and played guitar for 3 years at Calvary Community Church in Aubrey on the
worship team.

Later on I formed a couple of bands and played the Dallas area with:
The Contractors, Faded Blue, Cornerstone, The Recyclers, Nobody's Fault, Swine Cadillac, the Oneders (no that's
The Wonders),  Joe Perry called and asked if I could fill in for him but I was too busy trying to work out the lead to
"Wonderful Tonite".
Formed JB and the Crossroads Band and am currently doing shows in the Denton area and promoting
CrossRoads School of Music.

Currently I play with the Worship Band at
Calvary Baptist Pilot Point. My wife and I, Terri, have attended Calvary
Baptist for 2 years. Previously we were at Midway Baptist Church;  I acted as a "floater"  and played whatever
instrument was necessary.   This has been a true blessing for us and I enjoy giving my gift as a musician.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.  I could go on some more but I figure I've probably bored you long enough!

I hope this information helps to answer your question of my being qualified in the field of music and I welcome any
calls or e-mails at any time to discuss the school or band scheduling.  Hope to hear from you soon!

Rock On!
